Daily Life

​Accommodations:​
The Ulpan building has 12 rooms. In each room two beds, a closet, table and chairs, air conditioning, internet connection, toilet and shower. Most rooms and common areas also have a wireless internet connection.
We supply bed linen, towels, laundry bags, toilet paper, soap, cleaning products, working clothes and shoes if needed.
Also in the Ulpan building: office with fax, telephone, computer and printer which can be used when the Ulpan staff is present.
A kitchenette with refrigerator, electric water boiler, microwave and toaster oven, mainly for the preparation of hot drinks, small snacks and Shabbat diner. All other meals may not be prepared in the kitchenette and should be eaten at the dining room.

Balcony with roof and sofa’s for socializing and smoking outside.
 

Kibbutz facilities:
Dining room​ (hadar ohel) – The dining room is the center of the kibbutz. Here all kibbutz members meet for meals, activities and holidays. The dining room serves three meals a day (except for Shabbat). The food is not kosher.
Laundry – Laundry service is given once a week. Each Ulpanist receives a personal number and tag to attach to the clothes and a box for clean laundry. Everyone is responsible for marking his own clothes, delivering the laundry in time and collecting the next day from the box.
Clinic (mirpa’a) – Certified nurses and a doctor are available in the clinic for emergency, basic medical needs and referrals to specialists. Medical care outside the kibbutz clinic may be attained in accordance with Health Insurances. A visit to the clinic should be coordinated with the Ulpan staff.
Swimming pool – During summer months.
 
Paid Services:​
Minimarket – The minimarket sells food, snacks, cigarettes, hygienic articles and more… purchase are made against a ticket that can be purchased at the Ulpan office during weekdays in the morning hours.
Pub – “Zandali” the kibbutz pub opens twice a week – on Tuesdays and Fridays in the evening and on holidays and special occasions. The two-storied pub has a bar, an open air balcony, snooker table, dance floor and a stage for concerts which take place every now and then.
Drinks are paid for by a ticket that can be purchased at the Ulpan office during weekdays in the morning hours. Alcoholic drinks may be bought in Israel and in the kibbutz only from age 18, in addition: impropriate behavior as a result of drinking can lead to expansion of the Ulpan.
Leisure:
Most afternoon and evening hours are free, except for weekly activities. Spare time (preferably) may be used for studying, but the kibbutz has also basketball and football fields and a swimming pool which is open during summer. Weekends and holidays are free for trips and visits in Israel. Mishmar Ha’emek is situated close to the cities Yokne’am and Afula. There you can find shops, cinema’s, restaurants, banks etc. Both cities are at a distance of 10-15 minutes’ drive from Mishmar Ha’emek. The city of Haifa, one of Israel’s largest cities, is situated 30 minutes’ drive from Mishmar Ha’emek.
Mishmar Ha’emek has a rich cultural life including concerts and theatre, various activities, movies and collective holidays. Ulpanistim are invited to be part of all these activities.
